Bruce Springsteen (born September 23, 1949) is an influential American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He has frequently recorded and toured with the E Street Band. His eloquence in expressing ordinary, everyday problems has earned him numerous awards, including fifteen Grammy Awards and an Academy Award. His most famous albums, Born to Run (1975) and Born in the U.S.A. (1984). He has sold over 60 million albums in the U.S. alone.
Springsteen's lyrics often deal with men and women struggling to make ends meet. His album 'The Rising' (2002) was a response to the September 11, 2001 attacks, in an attempt to make the American people 'rise' again... Another reason for his popularity are his 'marathon' concerts, in which he and the E Street Band present intense ballads and party rock and roll songs, amongst which Springsteen tells long, whimsical or deeply emotional stories.
Springsteen has long had the nickname "The Boss," which originated when he was young and played with a band in clubs in the 1960's, and took the task of taking the nightly pay and distributing it amongst his bandmates. Now, at the age of 48, he has released a new album entitled 'Magic', after two consecutive albums in 2005 and 2006, and he is likely to stay on the rock scene for as long as he lives!
